The Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is an iconic cycling event offering the rider a variety of challenges set amongst some of New Zealand's most superb scenery. The Challenge route is a 160 km circumnavigation of Lake Taupo, affording the rider spectacular lake and mountain views. The route may be covered individually, in relay legs of 40 km or for those for whom one lap is not enough, 320 km and 640 km options are also available. Teams may also include a mountain bike leg at the start of their relay. The event is noncompetitive with the exception of the Classic Race for elite riders and for which entry criteria apply. The event starts and finishes in picturesque Taupo, a friendly tourist town renowned for hosting national and international events.
